God Is Still Working in the Waiting

When Waiting on God Feels Like No Progress

You may be in a season of life that feels like waiting without movement. Plans have stalled. Prayers seem delayed. The days keep passing, yet nothing appears to be changing.

That kind of waiting can wear on your soul. It may make you wonder if God has gone quiet or question whether your strength is running out.

But Scripture speaks directly into these long seasons of uncertainty.

Isaiah 40:31 says:

> “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
> They will soar on wings like eagles;
> they will run and not grow weary,
> they will walk and not be faint.”
> Isaiah 40:31, NIV

This Bible verse about strength does not deny that life can be difficult. It does not pretend that waiting is easy or promise that every answer will come quickly. Instead, it offers a deeper assurance: God sustains His people while they wait.

If you are waiting on God today, He has not forgotten you. Your circumstances may feel unchanged, but His presence remains steady.

What It Means to Hope in the Lord

When the Bible speaks about hope, it is not describing wishful thinking. Biblical hope is confidence rooted in the character of God. It rests on who He is, what He has promised, and how faithfully He has cared for His people.

To hope in the Lord means continuing to trust Him when the outcome is unclear. It means bringing your weariness to Him honestly instead of pretending you are strong enough on your own. It means refusing to let delay have the final word over your faith.

Hope becomes a daily rhythm.

You wake up and ask God for strength again. You face another setback and remember that you are not abandoned. You take the next faithful step—not because you can see the entire road, but because you trust the One who walks with you.

Waiting on God is not passive. It is an active choice to remain faithful, prayerful, and open to His work.

How God Renews Your Strength

Isaiah 40:31 gives us three powerful pictures of renewed strength: soaring, running, and walking.

God Gives Strength to Soar

Sometimes God gives strength that feels like soaring. There are moments when His grace lifts you above what once overwhelmed you. You see more clearly, your heart feels lighter, and you recognize that God is carrying you.

These moments can remind you that your strength does not come from your circumstances. It comes from the Lord.

God Gives Strength to Run

At other times, renewed strength looks like running without growing weary. You still have responsibilities. You still have work to do. You may still face difficult decisions, but God gives you endurance for the race in front of you.

Christian encouragement does not mean pretending the race is easy. It means trusting that God will provide the strength needed for each step.

God Gives Strength to Walk

Sometimes strength looks like walking and not fainting.

That may not sound dramatic, but it is deeply holy. Walking requires steadiness. It is one step, then another. One prayer, then another. One act of obedience, then another.

In some seasons, the miracle is not that you moved quickly. The miracle is that, by God’s grace, you kept going.

How Waiting on God Builds Endurance

If you feel stuck, consider this possibility: God may be forming endurance in you rather than simply preparing an escape from your circumstances.

Eagles do not soar by eliminating the wind. They rise by using the wind beneath them. In a similar way, God can use difficult seasons to strengthen your inner life. He can deepen your prayer life, reveal where you have been depending on control, and teach you to rest in His presence rather than rely on quick answers.

This does not mean every delay is easy to understand. It does not mean every painful season should be explained with simple phrases. Some suffering is heavy, and we should never rush past it.

But your waiting is not invisible to God.

He sees you. He knows what you are carrying. He is able to renew your strength in ways that reach deeper than your circumstances.

What to Do While You Wait on God

You may not be able to solve everything today. You may not be able to see the end of this season. But you can take one small step of trust.

Try these simple practices while waiting on God:

● Open Scripture before opening the door to fear.

● Pray before surrendering to anxiety.

● Ask God for today’s strength instead of demanding tomorrow’s answers.

● Write down reminders of God’s past faithfulness.

● Reach out to a trusted believer instead of carrying everything alone.

● Take the next faithful step, even when you cannot see the whole path.

God’s love does not waste time. He can use the long middle to form something steady in you—not because waiting itself is always good, but because He is good and present with His people in the waiting.

The Lord who renews strength has not forgotten you.

Where are you hoping right now? What small step of trust can you take today?

A Prayer for Strength While Waiting

Father,

I confess that waiting is hard. When answers feel delayed and my strength feels thin, help me place my hope in You again. Renew what is weary in me. Teach me to trust Your character when I cannot yet see Your plan.

Give me grace to soar when You lift me, to run when You strengthen me, and to walk faithfully when the next step is all I can see.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
